In which a jewel thief goes to two birthday parties.
Summer is a big time for birthdays in our family-- Momma and Owen in July; Grandma and Daddy in August. Daddy spent his special day wondering if he would continue to be employed. He had a mandatory test for work the next day and he was flunking the preparatory materials miserably.
Fortunately, we have a fall-back plan should Dad get fired. Owen will become a jewel thief.
We've been practicing almost daily. Owen enjoys sneaking. He also likes to take down Momma's jewelry box, root through the bracelets and then make off with a few. The way we figure it, a couple of visits to some of our richer friends and we should be set.
Sadly, however, Owen tends to select the lower quality items. As the purchaser of many of Momma's bracelets, I can tell you the plastic beaded ones Owen prefers are of less value than the silver ones he likes to throw under the dresser.
As soon as we fix his eye for quality, though, we'll be making a visit to Aunt Melissa's house.
Luckily Daddy passed his test so we don't have to send the boy out into a life of crime just yet. To celebrate we went to a birthday dinner for Grandma and, a few days later, stuck our fingers in Daddy's birthday cake.
Momma and Owen also went to see Jim "Mr. Stinky Feet" Cosgrove's concert on the Plaza. Being huge groupies of Mr. Stinky Feet, we went to see him at the zoo, too. The zoo was fun-- especially the monkeys and the little train.
Mr. Stinky Feet seemed less interesting at the zoo, however, which surprised Momma and Daddy. Singing and dancing has become a huge favorite of Owen's and he rarely passes up an opportunity to do a little stepping. In fact, between Stinky Feet concerts, Owen enjoys The Backyardigans, a musical kids' show. We even have a short video of Owen dancing to the intro of the show which thwarted my best efforts to make it a part of this page.
At any rate, I know I'm biased, but he's awfully cute when he dances.
That said, keep your hand on your wallet when he's around...
