Dans lequel Owen et Mama ont des bons anniversaires.

Okay, so it's been roughly a hundred years since I studied French.  I'm fairly sure I misspelled something. In short I was going for, "In which Owen and Mama have good birthdays."

I think.

At any rate, it was certainly a FULL birthday month.  Preceded by the nation's birthday party on the fourth, Robin and Owen both celebrated their birthdays with France's Bastille Day festivities on the 14th.

A lot of parties and a lot of travel.

The fourth was celebrated with a parade at school and, later, with a party at Uncle Joe and Aunt Loretta's house in Paola.  It was big fun and the first chance to meet new cousin Isaiah.  At six months-ish, Isaiah is already as big as Owen at two!

Then the actual date was celebrated with a big family trip to Paris.  Owen did great on the plane, running back and forth between Mom and Grandma and Grandpa.  Once in France, Owen managed to snap pictures in front of Notre Dame and the Louvre.  His majesty let none of the European majesty interrupt his naps (as you can see with the Notre Dame snap).  Uncles Kirk and Doug and baby-sitter extraordinaire April made the trip a complete success.

Apparently Owen's cuteness has international appeal.  In addition to charming the local cafe wait staff, Owen was approached no less than three separate times by Asian tourists in Paris who wanted to have their pictures taken with him.  (You can see an example above.)

How shocked would they be to know he's just as Asian as they are?

Back home, the fun continued.  Owen made it to his first movie in a theater-- the animated feature "Cars."  Lightning McQueen, Sally and Mater Truck are officially the coolest stars in Hollywood.

In addition, Owen and Dad went for their first swim lesson.  The class came, of course, on the heels of a record-breaking heat spell where temperatures passed 100 degrees.  On swim day, however, the heat wave broke and dropped into the sixties.

Despite bluish lips and a bit of shivering, we had a lot of fun.  Owen slipped and went all the way under (which isn't on the syllabus for a few weeks, yet).  That said, he remained undeterred and had to be forced out of the pool when class finished.

Finally, yesterday, we had a make-up birthday party for the friends and family who couldn't make it to Paris.  Tons of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends came over for snacks and cake and ice cream.  The theme was "Cars" (go figure) and plenty of new vehicles made their way into the toybox.

Everyone was very generous.

As much as the gifts, Owen enjoyed being the center of attention.  He's demanded the "Happy Birthday to Owen" song repeatedly from his parents and has even been caught singing it to himself.

He sings pretty well, but he can't do it in French.

Yet.
